Be careful to register for that upgrade when you are booking the flight. Ask the traveling agent to regularly check the seats. Usually they upgrade the frequent flyers in the last minute. The more points you have, the bigger is the chance you will be upgraded.
At the check in, try to get an upgrade. You can get that in the last minute. But if you have taken a discount ticket then they will not upgrade you.
Take the less popular destinations, off season
If you are going to a popular destination, it is best to try to get tickets off season because the ones during the season will be expensive. Also avoid taking your ticket in the last minute. Book the flight in advance and in this way you will make sure to get the best fare on many routes.
